Business Health Check

Is your business in good shape?

Whether you are already operating your business or just starting out, it is crucial to give your business a health check every now and then. Here is a quick checklist to keep you on track:

  1. Business Name Registration: While this will not provide any real protection to your business, this still needs to be complied with as a requirement of law.
  2. Trade Mark Registration: This will protect your logo and business name from the use of business competitors.
  3. Australian Business Number (ABN) Registration: This is mandatory for businesses operating in Australia.
  4. GST Registration: This is required if you, or anticipate to, earn more than $75,000 per year.
  5. Terms and Conditions of Sale: This is important if you provide goods or services to clients or customers as it will help avoid disputes by covering items such as returns policy, complaints, communication channels, order placements and timeframes, etc.
  6. Privacy Policy: This keeps clients and customers informed about how their personal data are processed.
  7. Supplier Contract: This is crucial for distribution agreements or a form of exclusivity in the provision of supply of goods or services or the use of a supplier’s trade mark or logo.
  8. Premises Lease: This will be governed by the Retail Shop Leases act, in case of retail shops, or commercial leases.
  9. Distribution Agreement: This is essential for product distributors or licensees not falling within a franchise.
